- March 2024 is Education Support Professionals Month in Riverview!
Riverview School District wants to take a moment and celebrate Education Support Professionals in our district, with March 2024, proclaimed as Education Support Professionals Month by Governor Jay Inslee. On Tuesday, March 12, our Superintendent, Dr. Susan Leach, read the Governor's Proclamation at the March 12 School Board Meeting. Video available here: https://www.rsd407.org/meetings (Proclamation read at 3:50) Riverview's Education Support Professionals are integral to any success we achieve together as a district. They work with our students, support our staff and administration, connect with parents, build community, maintain our facilities, serve meals, transport our most precious cargo, and can often be a trusted mentor and individual in a student's life. We simply cannot do school without them! Please take the time to thank an Education Support Professional at your next opportunity. As Lori Oviatt, Riverview School Board Chair shares, our Education Support Professionals truly are the backbone of our district!
- Riverview Students Earn Awards of Merit from Washington State PTA Reflections Competition
Congratulations are in order for Alexis Lehner (Cedarcrest High School, 10th Grade) and Colette Rogahn (Carnation Elementary, 2nd Grade), who received Award of Merit honors from the Washington State PTA as part of the state-wide Reflections Arts Competition. Alexis' piece, "Divine Intervention" earned the Award of Merit in the Visual Arts (Grades 9-12) High School category. For Rogahn, her entry entitled "Heart Ring" was granted an Award of Merit in the Photography (Pre-K - Grade 2) Primary category. The annual PTA/PTSA Reflections Arts Competition invites students in grades ranging from Pre-K to 12th Grade to create original works of art in response to a theme. This year's theme was "I am Hopeful Because..." and themes are selected from student submissions. Students are able to enter in one or more of the available arts categories (Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature and Music Composition) and compete at the school level. Then a district-wide council PTA event determines the finalists who advance to the state round. Recipients of the "Outstanding Interpretation" award advance to the National PTA round. The theme for 2024-2025 is "Accepting Imperfection." Alexis and Colette's work is shared below. Please join us in congratulating them on such impressive work and congratulations to everyone who competed in Riverview's 2023-2024 Reflections Art competition.

- Riverview School District Launches Telehealth Services for Students and Families
Click the video above to hear about the arrival of telehealth services in Riverview School District. The Riverview School District is excited to announce the arrival of telehealth services for our students and families. Riverview’s new partnership with Hazel Health, a national leader in school-based telehealth services, will provide opportunities for our Riverview students to access mental health care at school and at home. “The implementation of a telehealth model will provide an additional layer of support, either at home or at school, for our students who need it,” says Superintendent, Dr. Susan Leach. As Dr. Leach indicated in the March 4 edition of the Monday Minute, telehealth services, for the next two-to-three weeks will begin at home, requiring an adult to be present. “As soon as we finalize implementation in our schools, we will open up appointments for those families who prefer that their child will be seen at school.” The partnership with Riverview School District and Hazel Health comes as a result of a grant from Riverview Education Foundation (REF), an education non-profit partner who supports all Riverview schools by raising money and then giving proceeds to our district through direct funding of grants and district initiatives. REF agreed to fund a one-year pilot of the program, which Dr. Leach announced at the recent REF Evening for Education Dinner Auction on February 3, 2024. Hazel Health services include: • Scheduled therapy appointments: Therapy can help students cope with what they’re feeling, such as behavior changes, anxiety, bullying, withdrawal, grief, peer and family relationships, depression, or stress. • Licensed therapists: Hazel Health therapists are bilingual, diverse and are experts in the needs of children and teens. • Care coordination: If your child needs additional services outside of Hazel Health services, Hazel will help connect you to local resources. To request a therapy appointment for your child, you can contact Hazel Health at 1-800-76-HAZEL (42935). Learn more and sign up: my.hazel.co/rsd407.

- 2024 Educational Effectiveness Survey Now Open
Dear Riverview Families, For us to continue to improve as a school district, and in each of our schools, it is important for us to understand stakeholder perceptions about the job we are doing in providing a quality education for all our children. We are seeking information through completion of a 10-15 minute survey that is available from now through February 13, 2024. The survey questions were developed by the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE), a Bellevue, Washington-based educational research firm, in collaboration with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Washington State. This survey will provide our staff and leadership valuable information and feedback, and been used with over 750,000 educational stakeholders in the Western United States. The survey is confidential and anonymous. Once users submit their feedback, they will no longer be able to login to the survey. Emails are not attached to the responses and CEE protects the confidentiality of each respondent. If you have any questions regarding the Educational Effectiveness Survey (EES), please contact your child(ren)'s principal or Dr. John Lombardi, Riverview School District's Director of Teaching, Learning, and School Leadership, via email, at lombardij@rsd407.org. EES-Family, Active Link Survey To access the survey, visit: EES Family Survey Link: Riverview SD Choose your language preference on the opening page of the survey. Select your child’s school. If you have children in multiple schools, complete one survey per child. Complete the survey and click submit. We value your input as we strive to continue to improve. Thank you for your feedback. Sincerely, Dr. John Lombardi Riverview School District Director of Teaching, Learning, and School Leadership
- Qmlativ Update and FAQ Information - January 26, 2024
As we move closer to the launch of Qmlativ, the newest iteration of the Skyward information system we use for district-related data management, we wanted to share updates and answer questions we have recently received. When does Qmlativ go live in Riverview? February 29, 2024. A detailed timeline is provided below. Why is this switch happening mid-year? Skyward is phasing out their SMS 2.0 student management system and migrating school districts over to the Qmlativ platform in select cohorts. Districts are migrated generally in April or during the summer and several factors go into determining when districts will begin their migration work. In partnership with NWRDC (Northwest Regional Data Center), our software support team for the migration from Skyward to Qmlativ, Riverview is migrating in February 2024. Who decided on the Qmlativ mid-year migration? Superintendent’s Cabinet conducted long discussions with members of our Business and Operations team, Information Technology team, and student data coordinator, Mardi Rezoski. When weighing all the information, analyzing what steps would need to be taken and assessing the potential migration timelines available, the decision to migrate sooner, rather than later, fit with the district’s plans in moving to Qmlativ. What factored into the decision to roll this out? When NWRDC is working with districts on a migration plan, they consider the size of the district they are working with, the software support team’s schedule and capacity to provide necessary support to migrating districts, as well as the impact on district processes (i.e., payroll, grading, student data, employee information, etc.). Districts also make internal plans to best assess when they will be prepared and best equipped to move forward with migration. Riverview began planning this migration in the fall of 2022 and were added to the February 2024 cohort by NWRDC when all factors were considered. What are these “Dark Days” I am reading and/or hearing about? “Dark Days” refers to the period during migration when Skyward and Qmlativ will not be available. This signifies the final stages of the migration process and is expected to occur from February 20, 2024, through February 28, 2024. • February 20, 2024 – Skyward database is locked at 2PM. • February 21-23, 2024 – No access to Skyward or Qmlativ. • February 26-28, 2024 – Data validation and post-migration configurations to be completed. • February 29, 2024 – Anticipated “go live” date for Qmlativ. In addition to “Dark Days,” are there are additional dates I need to be aware of? Yes. • On February 14, e-Funds will be locked. • On February 16, Family Student Access will be locked. • There is no school in Riverview on February 16 and February 19, 2024, for President’s Day Weekend. • On the morning of February 20, the existing Skyward Mobile app will be unavailable. • On February 20, attendance alerts generated by Skyward and sent through ParentSquare will be temporarily unavailable. Low balance alerts for food service accounts will also be temporarily unavailable. In addition, during the “Dark Days” period, all attendance entries, account balance adjustments, changes to new and existing student information and fee tracking will be updated approximately two-to-three weeks after Qmlativ goes live. I am a parent/guardian in the district. Is there anything I need to do? Two important things you can do at your earliest convenience: • Make sure your student’s health and contact information is accurate and current. • Check Skyward Family Access and make sure your contact and emergency contact information is accurate and current. To update your student’s information, please contact your school’s registrar prior to February 15, 2024. Is Qmlativ available as a mobile app? A mobile app will be available. We will provide instructions for updating the mobile app once Qmlativ goes live on February 29, 2024. Where can I find additional information on Qmlativ? • Our Information Technology team has put together a webpage with resources for staff and families. • Skyward has developed Resource Toolkits for all users (Parent, Student, Teacher, Administrator)
- Billy Ojeda Named New Elementary Assistant Principal, Supporting Carnation and Cherry Valley Elementary
“I am so honored to be back home. Riverview helped mold me into the person I have become, and I want to give back all I can to this community.” An educator for more than 20 years, and a member of our Riverview Community for even longer, Billy Ojeda returns to the Riverview School District as a new Assistant Principal, providing support to Carnation and Cherry Valley Elementary schools. Ojeda will provide support to those schools two days per week, with a third day alternating between the schools each week. He began his new role on January 16, 2024. Most recently, he served four-and-a-half years as Dean of Students in the Lake Stevens School District. Prior to that, Ojeda was a Spanish teacher at Cedarcrest High School for four years and taught Spanish for 11 years in the Mukilteo School District at Mariner High School. “I love working in education and feel lucky to do what I love,” Ojeda says. “In my career, I have always come from a place of service and support. If I can make either a student, parent, or teacher smile or be satisfied, then I have done my job. I want to make those around me feel special because that is the leader I want to be.” Ojeda brings a mentoring and coaching background to his new role, as well as an advocacy for all students to be included and have their voices amplified. A former Cedarcrest varsity football coach, he has also been an assistant football coach, assistant junior varsity tennis coach, served as both a head coach and assistant coach with middle school wrestling and previously served as an athletic director. Beyond athletics, Ojeda is experienced with PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support), focused on preventing behaviors, while being equally skilled in MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support), helping educators provide a framework for implementing academic and behavioral strategies for all students. With extensive experience focusing on diversity and inclusion efforts, while also serving on various committees to open doors and provide access to marginalized and vulnerable communities, the word “community” is synonymous with Billy Ojeda’s life and work experience. “Last year, my theme in the district was ‘creating community’. I cannot think of anyone who better exemplifies that idea than Mr. Ojeda,” said Riverview Superintendent, Dr. Susan Leach. “He is a welcome addition to our administrative team and will be an immense support to our elementary principals.” “Going to school here, I had amazing teachers and mentors who never gave up on me and pushed me to be better each day,” Ojeda shares. “I want to do the same for the students I am so proud to serve.” Please join us in welcoming back Billy Ojeda to our Riverview Community!
