The Riverview School District is proud to share that Carnation Elementary and Eagle Rock Multi-Age Program have been individually recognized as King County Green Schools for the 2018-19 school year.

Carnation Elementary was one of 60 schools county-wide to earn the title of a Sustaining Green School for sustaining multiple levels of environmental practice in the areas of waste reduction and recycling (Level One), energy conservation (Level Two), and water conservation and pollution prevention (Level Three). To earn Sustaining Green School recognition, schools also were tasked with completing an additional conservation action or education strategy within their building.

Eagle Rock Multi-Age (ERMA) received recognition as a King County Level Three Green School for maintaining Level One and Level Two practices, while also engaging students in water conservation and pollution prevention actions. ERMA was one of 11 schools in King County to earn a Level Three award.

The King County Green Schools Program helps schools and school districts engage students and employees in learning about and practicing resource conservation. In 2019, a record number of schools (89 in total) were recognized as King County Green Schools, and over 300 K-12 schools across King County have benefited from the program since its inception in 2009.

"Schools like Carnation Elementary and Eagle Rock have initiated or improved sustainable practices such as reducing paper use, reducing food waste, recycling, and conserving energy and water, all of which reduce carbon emissions that contribute to climate change," said Dale Alekel, Green Schools Program manager.

We congratulate the students, staff, and families at Carnation Elementary and Eagle Rock Multi-Age for this terrific honor!
