  • Meet our 2022-2023 Student Representatives!

Cedarcrest students Tejasvini Vijay and Zachary Llenza will serve as the 2022-23 Student School Board Representatives this year, joining the Riverview School District's School Board in a non-voting, advisory role. Student Representatives provide insight and perspective to the Board, serving as a liaison between the students of our high school, as well as the rest of the school district. The students are required to attend all regular Board meetings during the academic year, give monthly reports at School Board meetings, share information on student activities, and discuss topics and concerns shared by the high school’s student council officers and additional student leadership present in all of our schools. During the year, Student Representatives participate in Board training sessions, when invited, including the Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) Annual Conference and the WSSDA Legislative Conference in Olympia. During the Legislative Conference, Tejasvini and Zachary will have the opportunity to meet with state legislators and advocate for education. Students chosen to serve as Student Representatives each serve two-year terms. The Riverview School District was among the first in the state of Washington to have Student Representatives serve on their School Board. Riverview’s including of students has been influential, as Riverview’s School Board Directors and Student Representatives have given presentations in years’ past on ways that other districts can initiate a student representative program. “We value our student representatives; they are the voices of the students in our district as well as in Washington state. Our students meet with legislators and testify on legislative issues, so they represent Riverview statewide," said School Board Chair Lori Oviatt. "All of our decisions consider the student voice. Our students are amazing and through the unique connections and perspectives of our Student Representatives, they help us to see issues through their eyes, affecting learning needs and our decision-making.” We congratulate Tejasvini and Zachary for their ongoing service to the Riverview School District and our school community.

  • Riverview and Oxbow Farm Renew Partnership

The Riverview Food Services Department is thrilled to share that Oxbow Farms is one of several local farms in our area who will be delivering fresh fruits and vegetables for meals this year. Riverview has partnerships with several Washington-based farms. With Oxbow, we wanted to shine a spotlight on a local partner who supports our community and our district. Recently, our Food Services team earned a $24,000 Farm-to-School grant to assist in paying for purchases from local farms like Oxbow. In these first deliveries, the district received large radishes, kale, red ace beets, golden beets, and lunchbox peppers. “Oxbow has an excellent roadside stand everyone should check out!” shares Shelly Young, Riverview’s Food Services Supervisor. With the arrival of this new, fresh produce, Young has also challenged her kitchen staff to come up with new recipes to try out with our students. Beets were tested first, as staff members prepared Asian Sesame Beet Salad and Oven-roasted Beets. Even our own Super Lunch Lady got involved in the fun! Additionally, red tomatoes from the Cedarcrest greenhouse have been made available for use in our salad bars and recipe creation. Thanks to our amazing Food Services team for images and updates, as they continue to work hard to create community with local farms and provide healthy food options for students across our district.

  • New and Updated COVID-19 Guidance for Fall 2022

Dear Riverview Parents, Students, Staff, and Families, Washington State Department of Health recently updated its COVID-19 school and child care guidance on August 5, 2022. Following these safety measures reduces the spread of COVID-19. This communication further explains how the updated guidance impacts your family and the greater Riverview community. Health and Safety Requirements for this Fall: Students and staff who show symptoms of COVID-19 are required to stay home, and should get tested for COVID-19. Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate at home for 5 days following a positive test. If symptoms improve, and they have had no fever for the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications, students and staff can return to school and are encouraged to test before returning. See Page 2 of COVID-19 school and child care guidance. Students and staff returning to school after isolation should wear a well-fitting mask from days 6 to 10. Individuals returning to school from isolation should also remain masked for sports and other extracurricular activities. See Page 6 of COVID-19 school and child care guidance. Students and staff who test positive after 5 days of isolation must stay at home for the full 10-day isolation period. See Page 6 of COVID-19 school and child care guidance. Schools must inform students, families, and staff when there are cases or outbreaks in school. Schools are no longer required to directly notify high risk students or staff. See Page 3 of COVID-19 school and child care guidance. Riverview School District will continue to update the COVID-19 Dashboard (https://www.engage.rsd407.org/dashboard). We will also communicate cases and outbreaks to families through the district's COVID-19 Dashboard and/or school newsletters. These requirements are in place for all public and private K-12 schools and child care facilities in Washington state. Schools and childcare facilities are required by state law to follow these guidelines. To reduce the spread of COVID-19, we will continue to offer free COVID-19 testing for staff and students at the district office, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Households are encouraged to test as needed at home. In Washington state, you can receive free self-tests from the Say Yes! COVID Test program. Most insurance covers the costs of up to eight (8) self-tests per individual per month. COVID-19 vaccinations remain the best protection for everyone against hospitalization and severe disease from COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children 6 months and older. Booster doses are also available for children 5 years or older. You are encouraged to vaccinate your children if they are eligible, in consultation with your health care provider. You can reach out to your school nurse for help or more information. We look forward to continuing to provide safe and healthy spaces for our students and staff when they return this fall. Sincerely, Molly Lutz Director of Student Services
