DECEMBER 2021 SUPERINTENDENT VIDEO MESSAGE

As the calendar turns to December, Riverview Superintendent, Dr. Anthony Smith, has released his latest video message. In this month’s video, Dr. Smith discusses our district values, with a focus on engagement, while also wishing our Riverview Community a great holiday season.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR HIGHLY CAPABLE SERVICES AND PROGRAM FOR THE ACADEMICALLY TALENTED

The Riverview School District will be accepting nominations for assessing students for Highly Capable Services, including the Grades 2-5 Program for the Academically Talented (PAT) for the next school year. Highly Capable Services in RSD may include the following: accelerated learning in content areas; curriculum compacting; differentiated instruction; academic content area grouping arrangements to serve identified needs; self-contained classrooms; Honors courses; AP courses; and Independent Study.

All first-grade students will be screened in January to determine their eligibility, so no first grade or kindergarten students need to be nominated. Parents can opt-out of the Highly Capable screening for their children by completing the opt-out form. This form will be given to parents at conferences or sent home with your 1st grade child.

All parents who wish to refer their 2nd grade through 11th grade children may pick up a nomination form at their parent-teacher conference, or in the school office after conferences, to be turned in before Winter Break in December (the final day to nominate a student). No late nominations or outside (private) test scores will be accepted. Those elementary students who meet the criteria on the screener given during the school day at their home school will be invited to take the full Cognitive Abilities Test in February.

The goal for Highly Capable Services is to support and provide appropriate academic challenges to students with extraordinary ability in English/Language Arts or Math.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

Winter Break ALL Highly Capable Nomination Forms Due in the HiCap Office at: 15510 - 1st Ave. NE PO Box 519 Duvall, WA 98019

Round 1 - January, CogAT screener administered during the school day at students’ home schools. Those who meet the criteria will move on to take the full CogAT test.

Round 2 - Late February CogAT test for those who qualify from January screening (date and time to be announced).

*If a child is ill or unable to attend a screening or testing session, parents must contact the HiCap office to schedule a make-up test. No outside test scores will be accepted.

CONGRATULATIONS TO NOVEMBER’S TOLT STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Tolt Middle School recently celebrated November’s Students of the Month!

Students were chosen by staff members for “being responsible and taking initiative” and families were able to view the ceremony through a livestream, produced by the district’s Information Technology team.

After opening remarks by Assistant Principal Karen Maguigad, she and Dean of Students, Theresa Vander Vaart, announced the student honorees individually. With each announcement, students learned which staff member nominated them and also why they were selected, receiving a certificate recognizing them for Student of the Month, as well as a commemorative pin.

Doughnuts and milk were also on hand to provide a special treat for each student recognized. The Riverview School District would like to join Tolt Middle School in congratulating: Michael Azami, Emma Biron, Dalton Bolstad, Cruise Cullen, Tyler Hall, Zayra Hernandez Felix, Malachi Jacobs, Gunjan Jeewani, Zoe Keller, Tiffany Larson, Tegan Lehner, Jacoby Matteo, Nicholas Padilla, Cynthia Paz-Mercado, Brian Quinones-Orozco, Rogelio Ruiz Preciado, Luciana Skinner, Justyna Skopalova, Fiona Snook, Malakiah Strakele, and Greysen Wiggins on being November’s Students of the Month!
