  • Michelle Frank Selected as New Principal of Cherry Valley Elementary

The Riverview School District is pleased to introduce Michelle Frank to our Riverview community, as the new Cherry Valley Elementary Principal. Mrs. Frank has extensive experience as a school administrator and counselor. Earning her Masters in Counselor Education from the University of Hawaii-Manoa in 1997, Mrs. Frank earned her licensure in educational leadership from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2007. She joins Riverview after completing five years as Principal of Adelaide Elementary in Federal Way Public Schools. Under her leadership, Mrs. Frank has seen improvement in ELA and math scores, been a frequent collaborator with district administration, cultivated important community partnerships, and has served at the forefront of implementing school safety protocols which have not only led to a decline in discipline referrals at her school, but has helped meet the social/emotional needs of her student population. “I am very excited about joining the Riverview School District!" she shares. "I look forward to being part of a collaborative school team who puts children first in all decisions. It is an honor and privilege to be chosen to serve as the next Cherry Valley Elementary School Principal." Mrs. Frank will be taking over for current principal, Roxanne Luchini, who will be transitioning into a new role with Riverview, assisting with PBIS implementation district-wide, and providing support for other initiatives on a part-time basis. “Michelle Frank has a proven track record of excellence in education,” says Dr. Anthony Smith, Riverview School District Superintendent. “She is a student-centered principal, known for creating an atmosphere where the entire school community thrives.” Please join us in welcoming Michelle Frank as the new principal of Cherry Valley Elementary.

  • The Riverview Way Outlines Mission, Vision and Strategic Direction for Riverview School District

Over the past year, the Riverview School District looked internally at their Mission statement, Vision statement, systems and operations, and strategic goals, analyzing how everything fit together. The result was a collaborative document called The Riverview Way, which defines these important components for both our internal students and staff and external Riverview community. "The purpose of this booklet is to communicate our priorities and how they work together to continually improve upon the wonderful culture that exists in our district," reads a portion of the opening remarks, serving as the introduction to the booklet. Reading through The Riverview Way, patrons will also find the district's Values and Beliefs, existing definition of Equity and Access, and how Riverview focuses on personalizing student learning with an equity lens. At the centerpiece of the document, the district's Teaching and Learning, Information Technology, and Student Services departments define their "Culture of Collaboration," outlining the ways the three teams work together in achieving goals and priorities in the broader context of the district's overall strategic direction. We encourage you to click the image above and read through The Riverview Way and find out more about Riverview and the district's focus in meeting their mission to "Educate Children," and achieve their vision in becoming a "National Model of Educational Excellence."

  • Spring 2019 State Testing Results Available Online

Each spring all Washington public school students in grades 3-8 and 10 are tested in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 are also tested in Science. This testing provides an assessment of student learning in identified content areas, yields data that schools and districts can use for instructional improvement, and meets state and federal assessment requirements. Riverview School District parents and guardians can view their student’s results from the Spring 2019 state tests online. These scores are considered “preliminary” until all scores for the state are processed and reported statewide. However, OSPI allows the District to share these scores with families online as they are 99.9% accurate and reliable. While we do not anticipate any score changes, we will contact parents/guardians if/when we receive notice. Please note the scores available now are for the Smarter Balanced Assessment ELA and Math exams. The District anticipates receiving the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) scores from OSPI in the fall. We will update student score reports in Family Access and notify families when they are finalized and available in the fall. We are excited to provide a secure and efficient reporting option that allows parents/guardians access to results at the end of June.  If your student(s) took a state assessment with the Riverview School District this spring, his/her results are now available via Family Access in Skyward. (See login directions below.) This is the same account used for checking attendance and grades. Parents who do not have access to a computer or Internet access, and need a paper copy of their child’s results, should contact their child’s school office in late August. The state’s Resources page www.k12.wa.us/Resources has many handouts that provide expanded information for families about state testing and learning standards. For information about graduation requirements, please visit the OSPI website at http://www.k12.wa.us/GraduationRequirements/. Sincerely, Dr. Randy Stocker Director of Teaching & Learning Riverview School District
