Cedarcrest students Crosby Ostercamp and Tejasvini Vijay will serve as the 2021-22 Student School Board Representatives this year, joining the Riverview School District's School Board in a non-voting, advisory role.

Student Representatives provide insight and perspective to the Board, serving as a liaison between the students of Cedarcrest High School, as well as the rest of the school district. The students are required to attend all regular Board meetings during the academic year, give monthly reports at School Board meetings, share information on student activities, and discuss topics and concerns shared by the high school’s student council officers and additional student leadership present in all of our schools.

During the year, Student Representatives participate in Board training sessions, when invited, including the Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) Annual Conference and the WSSDA Legislative Conference in Olympia. During the Legislative Conference, Sierra and Crosby will have the opportunity to meet with state legislators and advocate for education.

Students chosen to serve as Student Representatives each serve two-year terms.

The Riverview School District was among the first in the state of Washington to have Student Representatives serve on their School Board. Riverview’s including of students has been influential, as Riverview’s School Board Directors and Student Representatives have given presentations in years’ past on ways that other districts can initiate a student representative program.

“We value our student representatives as they bring a fresh perspective to our board,” said 2020-2021 School Board President Lori Oviatt. “All of our decisions always consider the student voice. Our students are amazing and through the unique connections and perspectives of our Student Representatives, they help us to see issues through their eyes, affecting learning learning needs and our decision-making.”

We congratulate both Crosby and Tejasvini for their ongoing service to the Riverview School District and our school community.
