Riverview School District is strengthening its approach to student attendance this school year, emphasizing early intervention, school-based problem-solving and support for families facing barriers to getting students to school consistently.

Each school is establishing or expanding an attendance team to examine attendance trends and patterns more closely. The goal is to identify concerns early and develop timely, targeted responses that reflect individual student needs.

The effort also recognizes the connection between attendance and students’ experiences at school. Schools began the year with digital resources reinforcing the importance of regular attendance and the role belonging and engagement play in student success.

By bringing attendance teams closer to the students and families they serve, the district aims to make support more responsive while building a more coordinated approach across its schools.

Riverview is also in the final stages of developing a Community Engagement Board, which will provide another layer of support for students and families experiencing barriers to consistent attendance.

The district’s next step is to develop district-level attendance data to help schools design effective interventions and better support families.

Together, the changes are intended to create a more proactive attendance system, one that identifies concerns sooner and helps students stay connected to their school communities.
